Ruth Anne Nicholson

Ruth Anne (Kruse) Nicholson, age 63, of Webster City, IA, passed away at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa on Wednesday, December 29, 2021. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at the Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) in Webster City, with Pastor Dan Kruse officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 that morning. Burial will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at 12:30 PM.

Ruth was born on September 18, 1958, in Watertown, Wisconsin, the 5th daughter of Waldo and Chrystal (Winter) Kruse’s 8 children. As a child, she delighted her family with her vivid imagination, her sparkling laugh, and her precocious memory. Ruth graduated from Burt High School in 1976. She attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa after which she taught for a short time.

Ruth was united in marriage to Douglas Nicholson on June 21, 1986, at the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church in Lone Rock, Iowa. She was a devoted, faithful, and supportive wife who enjoyed homemaking, gardening, baking, cleaning, and even ironing, with precision, Doug’s military uniform.

Ruth found joy in music throughout her life. She could be found singing, as well as playing the piano for nursing homes, Sunday school, and church. When Ruth and Doug visited her dad and Doug’s parents in their later years, Ruth would often play hymns for them. She also had the unique opportunity to sing hymns to both of her parents in their final hours of life on earth. Jesus Christ was Ruth’s Savior and Lord. Although her health was failing in the last few years, God’s Word and His Presence gave her comfort and peace as she left this world to be with her Savior face to face.

Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Douglas; her sisters and brothers, Colleen (Mark) Mawdsley of Madrid, IA; Rebecca Lavrenz of Falcon, C0; Cheryl (Jerry) McFarland of Fairmont, MN; Rachel (Tom) Schill of Gowrie, IA; Dan (Pam) Kruse of Sioux Center, IA; Katie (Mark) Evenson of Sioux Falls, SD; and Jon (Jolynn) Kruse of Rochester, MN; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan (Carolin) Nicholson of North Richland Hills, TX; Deb (John) Caparoula, Chester, VA; Dwight (Michele) Nicholson of Eagen, MN; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law, Wayne Lavrenz; sister-in-law, Diane Nicholson; and nephew, Aaron Nicholson.
