She was born on March 24, 1936, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and grew up on a farm near Henderson, Iowa. Her parents were Paul Revere Edmondson and Emma “Blanche” Danford Edmondson. She was the fifth of six children.
She attended and graduated from Iowa State University. She began her teaching career in Alta, Iowa, where she met Arthur Moulds. They were married in 1960. They had two sons and moved to Webster City in 1970, where she began teaching Head Start and later taught for Webster City Community Schools. She taught elementary P.E., first grade, and second grade, retiring in 1997.
She loved being outdoors, enjoying hiking, camping, canoeing, cross-country skiing, swimming, gardening, and traveling. An enthusiastic cyclist, she rode both long and short trips—around town, on the Boone River Trail, and the Sparta Trail in Wisconsin—and participated in more than 35 RAGBRAIs. In 2005, she shared a memorable RAGBRAI ride with her son and grandson.
At age 70, she completed a winter hike of the Grand Canyon, traveling from the South Rim down to the river and back out again. She took part in working vacations, repairing hiking trails and chinking cabins in Colorado, Wyoming, and the northeastern United States. An avid traveler, she visited Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, and taught English in China. She was also a devoted Iowa State University fan and frequently traveled to Ames to attend ISU women’s basketball and volleyball games.
She volunteered at Kamrar Community Church, Crestview, and Boone River cleanups. She received a Volunteer of the Year award from Governor Terry Branstad.
She loved visiting and teaching her grandchildren, taking them swimming, and on camping trips to the Loess Hills and to central Nebraska to see the Sandhill cranes at dawn and dusk.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Elinor Haley and Darleen Taylor; and brothers: Doyle, Dwight, and Dwayne Edmondson. She is survived by her husband, Art; her sons: Doug and Dave; daughter-in-law, Christy Anderson Moulds; grandchildren: Nathan (Sarah) Moulds and Nicole (Micah Case); and great-grandchildren: Pippa and Parker.
