Chaph Khanthongdy, aged 61, died at her home, surrounded by her family, on September 17, 2026. Private family services will be held at a later date. The family has chosen Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) to care for their needs.
Born in Xayaboury Province, Laos, on June 5, 1965, to Ya and Pheng Phompong, She and her family were refugees during the Vietnam War era, thus displacing them to a Thailand refugee camp and ultimately the United States. In November 1983, Chaph married the love of her life, Souriyong Khanthongdy, in Modesto, California. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around family, eventually raising three children and making their home in Webster City, Iowa.
A dedicated homemaker, Chaph poured her heart into caring for those around her. She found joy in life's simple pleasures: going to the park with her family, fishing, foraging for mushrooms, plants, and herbs, and cherished moments spent with her grandchildren.
Chaph will be remembered as a deeply loving, caring, and protective mother and wife. Her message to her family remains a testament to her heart: "I love you all so much. Take care of and protect each other because we are family."
Chaph’s family includes her husband Souriyong Khanthongdy; children: Belinda Flaugh of Webster City, IA, Bettina (Kaden) Bronzynski of Des Moines, IA, and Donovan (Kathleen) Khanthongdy of New Hampton, IA; grandchildren: Dean Flaugh, Christopher Flaugh, Lillian Flaugh, Buchanan Bronzynski, Ryder Bronzynski, and Walker Bronzynski; siblings: Nath Phompong, Chath Phompong, Song Phompong, Kham Phompong, Khai Phompong, and Loson Pama; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ya and Pheng Phompong, and her brother, Kheuak Phompong.
