Dr. Eugene F. Brown, 96, of Webster City, Iowa died on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Webster City. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 5-7 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 31, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The family has chosen Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) to care for their needs.
Eugene was born on July 28, 1927, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to John & Miriam (Scharf) Brown. After graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a hospital corpsman at Naval hospitals in Shoemaker and Oakland, California. Following discharge from the Navy in 1957, he returned to Fort Dodge to attend Fort Dodge Junior College, graduating in 1949. He then enrolled in the University of Iowa to finish his last year of pre-med studies. He then enrolled in the College of Medicine, graduating in 1954 with an M.D. Degree. After an internship at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines, he moved to Webster City, where he had his private practice from 1955-1995. He was a member of the Iowa State Medical Society, AMA, Hamilton County Medical Society and Hamilton Hospital Staff. He held many offices in the County Medical Society and was part of the Hamilton Hospital Medical Staff.
He was united in marriage to Leora Anna Nimke on June 26, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The family enjoyed vacationing in the Teton National Park in Wyoming and spent seventeen summer vacations there. They also enjoyed visiting the New England States in the fall. Several trips to Europe were also included in their travel plans, with Germany being the main focus on those trips, where they were able to attend two performances of the Passion Play.
Eugene was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Webster City, where he served on many committees and as a church officer. He also served as an organist, and the choir director for many years. In addition to his church activities, Eugene enjoyed music, reading, and University of Iowa Athletics. He was also an avid photographer and sold many of his pictures locally.
He had a long-time love of music, especially church music. He also enjoyed classical music as well as popular music of the era of his youth and young adult life. Eugene was one of the founding members of Community Presentations, an organization made up of community members and the junior College to promote the classics in music. He served on this committee throughout its lifetime. He will be remembered for his love of the arts and the willingness to share it with others.
Eugene’s family includes: His wife; daughters: Debra (Jay) Foley, of Denver, CO, and Wendy Sargent of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren: Chase Sargent; Meagan (Robert) Chambers, Jessica (Andrew) Liem, Jennifer Foley and Jacquelin Foley; great-grandchildren: Jack Foley and J.R. Chambers; and brothers: Tom and Dave. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Nancy Ann; and brothers Jerald and Duane.
