Durwood Anderson

Durwood Calvin Anderson, Jr (03/15/51 - 10/12/25) has died at his home in Stratford, Iowa. Known to his family and friends as Butch, he lived a quiet but full life doing what he loved. Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Boone, he was raised in Iowa. He joined the Marines after high school and then became an electrician, working at ABC Electric. He loved telling stories about growing up, including several about finding arrowheads in the fields around the house, keeping chimpanzees and foxes as family pets, and quite a few tales too fun to print. He spent these years sharing his love of hunting and shooting, fishing, trips to Colorado living on horseback for weeks, and riding the Honda Odyssey through the bottoms with his children and family.

In the mid-80’s he moved to the Lake Worth & Lantana area of South Florida. He loved Florida life, spending his free time chasing big fish with a hook & line, and smaller fish with his snorkel. Sundays were spent watching NASCAR. Friends and family will remember the bright blue house with his beloved ‘88 Sportster parked in the living room. He took that bike on many trips, including Daytona, Sturgis, the Tail of the Dragon, and along the coast on a perfect Florida day.

In the late 2000’s he retired from Slattery Electric and moved back to the Midwest. He continued his love of the outdoors, still chasing big fish and chasing big mushrooms. He loved finding that first morel of the season, comparing the biggest and teeniest mushrooms he could find, and sharing bags of them with his family & friends. They never tasted as good as when he fried them.

Butch is survived by his daughter Kelli Anderson (Matt Boyce), son Michael Anderson (Jen Van Horn), and grandchildren Elliott Anderson and Willow and Wyatt Van Horn. Per his wishes, Butch requested to be cremated without a service, and his ashes scattered by his children. In lieu of flowers or donations, please take a walk outdoors, watch some NASCAR, and then fry up some mushrooms in his memory.
