Gary Klein

Gary Klein, 64, of Ellsworth, Iowa, died on May 28, 2026, at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa. No services are planned at this time. The family has entrusted Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) to care for their needs.

Gary was born on June 24, 1961, to Richard and Florence (Holdgrafter) Klein. He attended South Hamilton Schools and graduated in 1979. Gary proudly served in the United States Air Force for 12 years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant while stationed in Japan and Germany.

Following his military service, Gary worked in construction, building concrete hog confinements, later building trusses, and eventually finished his working career as a night stocker at Hy-Vee.

On February 19, 2025, Gary was united in marriage to Melissa Reed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson Softail motorcycle and listening to classic rock and roll music. He loved his dog, Tank.

Gary’s family includes his wife, Melissa; step-daughter Vanessa Reed Palmersheim, of North Carolina; brother Richard Klein of Des Moines; sisters: Linda Klein of Story City and Lana (Dan) Engstrom of Story City; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Gary and Robert.
