Janet Eleanor Marvel died Sunday, April 19.  A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 22, at teh Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Sunset Drive and Mary Lane in Webster City, Iowa.

Janet Evans was born October 1, 1919, in Decatur, Illinois.  She graduated from Decatur High School in 1937, then attended Lindenwood College from 1937-1939.  She graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in 1941 and was a life-long Hawkeye fan.

Jan married John Wasson (Jack) Marvel on July2, 1942, shortly before moving to Washington D.C. where Jack served during World War II.  While in Washington D.C., they had two children, Judith and John.  They relocated to Webster City in 1945, where their thrid child, James, was born.

Jan and Jack owned and operated the Marvel Livestock Auction until selling the business in 1967.  They then purchased Jack and Jill Children's clothing store, which they operated until 1979.

Jan was a charter member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and served faithfully as Church Organist for more than 40 years.  She also served on the Bishop's Committee, Alter Guild, and Search Committees. She was a member and held numberous offices in Chapter EL, P.E.O.  She was a member of Newcastle Chapter D.A.R., worked with Meals on Wheels, and served with the Ecumenical Human Needs Committee.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 1984, her parents John and Lucile Evans, her brothers David and George.  She is survived by daughter Judy (Mrs. Thomas) McLaughlin of Webster City, son John of Aurora Colorado (Judi) and Son Jim of Tucson Arizon (Judy), eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.
