Jeffrey Lynn Brinkema, 66, of Kamrar, died on Saturday, December 27, 2025. Private family services will be held at a later date. The family has chosen Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) to care for their needs.
He was born on December 16, 1959, in Story City, Iowa, to Carl and Pat (McCoy) Brinkema. He grew up in Kamrar and attended Kamrar School through the sixth grade before continuing his education in Blairsburg. Jeff was a proud member of the Northeast Hamilton (NEH) Trojans, where he played football, and graduated in 1978.
He began working in the family business (Brinkema Painting & Roofing) as a teenager alongside his father, Carl. He later worked for Pella Windows in Story City for 6 years before returning to painting and roofing. Jeff continued painting and doing repair work with assistance for as long as his health allowed.
Jeff had a lifelong love of sports and competition. He was a Golden Gloves boxer and later tried professional wrestling in Georgia. He also played fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball for many years. A devoted sports fan, Jeff was an avid supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He was a proud member of the Kamrar Lions Club for many years and enjoyed promoting its many activities and fundraisers. One of his proudest accomplishments was creating the sports museum in the Lions building, a lasting contribution to the community he loved.
In his personal life, Jeff enjoyed cooking, had a special love for children, and cherished time spent with family and friends.
Jeff is survived by his brother Jim Brinkema, of Cedar Rapids; and his sister Jennie Brinkema (Scott McCaulley) of Kamrar. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; aunts and uncles; and his parents: Carl Brinkema in 2013 and Pat Brinkema in 2024.
