Joan Iris Smid

Joan Iris Smid, 80, of Webster City, IA died Friday, May 02, 2014 in Rochester, MN.  Her funeral service will be held Monday – May 05, 2014 at 1 PM at the Kamrar Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Wilson officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.  The visitation will be the same day starting at 10 AM at the church with lunch for all at 11:30 AM.
 
Joan was born May 26, 1933 in Webster City, IA to Leslie Earl and Zada Bessie (Hanson) Wilson.  She graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City in 1952.  Joan and Merlyn Smid were married in the Evangelical United Brethren Church on January 11, 1953.   She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone for 11 years.  They lived in Webster City until 1958 when they moved to Kamrar to farm.  A few years after the move, Joan became a full time farm wife and mom. She cared for Merlyn, the girls, house, livestock & crops.
 
She enjoyed making greeting cards with her Stampin’ Up! girls.  However attending the kids, grandkids, and great grandkids events and spending time with them was the highlight of her life.
 
Her family includes daughter Cindy & David Huisman of Britt, IA, and their family Alison & Eric Hassebrock – Shea, Elly & Erin; Brandie & Jeremiah Ubben – Clayton, Ryland & Lynden; Elicia & Tim Watson – Charlotte & Meredith; daughter Jodi & Dale Elm of Webster City and their family - Kristin, Austin, & Emily; sister-in-law Norma Jean Wilson of Webster City.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband & brother (Maynard Wilson).
