Larry  Gene Behrends, 61, of Forest City, IA  died Tuesday, September 4, 2012.  His funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 8th at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church, in Forest City, with Pastor Doug Snyder officiating.  Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Church.  Boman Funeral Home, Webster City,  in charge of arrangements. 
Larry was adopted to Theodore Donald Behrends and Wanetta Bell Behrends on September 11, 1953 in Belmond, Iowa.  After attending Belmond Community High School, Larry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. where he proudly served for 4 years.  Larry then worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs. He lived in many places during his career, including Salt Lake City, Utah, Sheridan, Wyoming, Loma Linda, California, Las Animas, Colorado, Detroit, Michigan, Canoga Park, California, Belmont Shore, California, Baltimore, Maryland. He married his soul mate, Debra Kay Behrends, on October 22, 1988 in Nashua, Iowa at the Little Brown Church.  After 24 years of service, Larry retired at the age of 45 in 1997 moving back home with his family to Forest City, Iowa.  Larry enjoyed reading books about the American Revolution and the development of the American West. He also enjoyed creating genealogy profiles for families, caring for his horses, creating websites, and playing the guitar. Larry's passions were being home with his family, working on his lakeside home, and fishing from his dock and boat.
Larry is survived by his wife, Debra Kay Behrends, his beloved children Michael Gregory Behrends and Kristin Taylor Behrends from Forest City, Iowa, Gregory Lawrance ( Denise Kay) Behrends from Hastings, Nebraska, and Brandi Kristina Behrends from Fort Worth, Texas. He is also survived by his brother Leon Dale (Reha Francis)Behrends and sisters LaRay Lee (Mike) Keiser and Lorraine Lee (Mike) Nelson of Brooklyn, Iowa. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Donald Behrends, mother Wanetta Bell Behrends, and his best friend and dog Cami.
