Lois Beth Holmes

Lois Holmes, 92, of Webster City, died on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City, Iowa. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Calvary Baptist Church from 11:30 – 12:00, with lunch for family and friends at 12:00, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Dows, Iowa.

Lois Beth Holmes was born on March 22, 1929, to Palmer and Ruth (Capellen) Holmes and lived on a farm north of Dows, Iowa until moving to town when she was a high school freshman. She graduated from the Dows High School in 1947 and Iowa State Teachers College in 1951 and later received a master’s degree from the State University of Iowa. She taught business subjects at high schools in Troy Mills, Meservey, Milford and Creston, Iowa, she also taught at the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport. From 1963-1972, she was the secretary to the Iowa-Missouri District Manager of Beatrice Food Company in Des Moines, and from 1972-1991 she was a secretary at the Karr Law office in Webster City.

Lois enjoyed church activities, gardening, reading, walking and being with friends. During her retirement, she belonged to the Town and Country Garden Club for a few years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Webster City. From 1972 until her mother died in 1992, she spent most weekends in Dows.

Her family includes her brother Paul R Holmes; nephew David and his wife Cheryl (Shores) Holmes; and great-nephew Grant Holmes. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister-in-law Geraldine (Crouch) Holmes.
