Marlin Abbott

Marlin Claud Abbott, 75, of Webster City, Iowa passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at VanDiest Medical Center in Webster City.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  The family has chosen Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com)  to care for their needs.

Marlin was born on October 12, 1947, to Claud and Deloris (Olson) Abbott at the Hamilton County Hospital in Webster City, Iowa.  He received his education at Dows school and graduated from Belmond High School in 1965.  Marlin attended NIACC and served with the Army National Guard.

Marlin was a dedicated telephone cable technician in the Marshalltown and Webster City areas for 48 years with Northwestern Bell, US West, Qwest, and Century Link.  Through this dedication he worked in Portland, Oregon for a short time helping to restore telephone service.  While working Marshalltown, he met Marian Willier, they got married on September 9, 1972, and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2022.

Marlin loved traveling anywhere from Okoboji to relax and fish, to Duluth and the Great Lakes.  He enjoyed moose hunting and fishing with his friends in Canada.  He had a passion for genealogy.  This passion led to research in Iowa and Missouri.  In 2018, he traveled to England for an adventure to further his research into Abbott family history.  But above all, he loved spending time with his family, anything from telling stories, to teaching useful life skills, along with playing all the games you can think of, indoors and outdoors, fishing being his all-time favorite.

Marlin’s family includes his sister Julie Abbott, of Eagle Grove; wife Marian; and their three children:  Melissa Abbott (Mike Lynch), of Waterloo, Candace Butz (Colby) of Webster City, and Richard Abbott of Webster City; four grandchildren:  Kaelyn Butz of Iowa Falls, Paige Abbott of Waterloo, Kaleb Butz of Webster City and Rhyan Lynch of Waterloo.
