Michael Hanson, 61, of Stanhope, Iowa, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. A family service will be held at a later date. Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) is entrusted with caring for the family’s needs.

Michael was born on September 12, 1963, to Gary and Lavonne (Luppes) Hanson, in Story City, Iowa. He grew up in Stanhope and attended South Hamilton High School. At age 18, he completed his training and became a volunteer firefighter for the Stanhope Fire Department. His lifelong commitment to service led him to eventually serve as Fire Chief for the City of Stanhope, a role he held with dedication until his retirement.

Over the years, Michael also worked as a mechanic at Read’s Auto, at the Amoco Fuel Station, at the local elevator, and the City of Stanhope. He was a proud and active member of the Iowa Firemen’s Association for 43 years, reflecting his deep commitment to public safety and community service.

Michael was a member of the Lutheran Church in Stanhope, and his faith and community were important parts of his life. He had a great love for camping and attended the Iowa State Fair every year for 44 years, creating cherished memories with family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his family playing cards, something that brought him great joy and laughter.

Michael is survived by his sister, Vicki (Mario) Ysaiz of Jewell, Iowa; nieces and nephews: Cody Ysaiz of Jewell, Macie Ysaiz of Ankeny, Tasha Ysaiz of Webster City; and great-niece Alaia McCoy of Webster City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Lavonne Hanson
