Michael Paul Johnson, 72 of Webster City, IA, died on Thursday, June 26, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, in the Ed Prince Building at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds followed by a meal. Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) is caring for the family’s needs.
He was born on September 21, 1952, in Independence, Iowa, to Marvin and Agnus”Ski” (Fiferlick) Johnson. Bill Duncan was like a second father to him. Michael attended Central Webster School, where he set a state record in the pole vault.
Following high school, Michael served as a Quartermaster in the United States Navy, completing a world tour and serving during the Vietnam War. During his time in the Navy, he earned his GED. After his military service, he worked for 28 years as a forklift operator at Electrolux and later stayed active with a variety of other jobs.
In 1977, Michael married Renae Schwendemann, and together they had two sons, Jeremy and Luke. He later married Pamala Creek in 1988, and they had two children, Megan and Zach.
Michael had a love for the outdoors and sports. He enjoyed fishing in Canada and Iowa, especially trout fishing at Strawberry Point and Backbone State Park. He played slow-pitch softball and even competed in a national tournament. He also enjoyed golf, basketball, stock car races, and hunting pheasants and deer. A fan of science fiction, he liked watching sci-fi movies and television shows. Michael was also well known for his talent in smoking and grilling meat.
Michael’s family includes his children: Jeremy (Stacy) Johnson of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Lucas (Amy Johnson of Ames, Iowa, Megan (Tyler) Mosbach of Webster City, Iowa and Zachary (Sarah) Johnson of Webster City, Iowa; companion Pamala Johnson of Webster City, Iowa; grandchildren: Makayla, Jace, Landon, Leo, Grayson, Cru, Bowen, Navy, Parker, Myla and Aaliyah; brothers: Mark (Dena) Johnson and Steve Coomes; sister Denise Ulicki; and sister-in-law Sheila Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother David.
