Nancy Morris, 82, of Ames, previously of Webster City, died on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Bethany Life in Story City. Visitation will be held from 5:00-6:30 PM, on Friday, October 30, at Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) in Webster City. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 31, at Boman Funeral Home.
Nancy was born on December 14, 1942, in Washington, D.C., to Albert and Helen (Brokaw) Hovey-King. She grew up in Falls Church, Virginia, living just blocks from her grandparents, with whom she spent many cherished hours.
Nancy began her working life as a switchboard operator. While later working as a hospital receptionist, she met Johnny Morris when a mutual friend asked John to pick Nancy up from work when he was unable to do so himself. The couple soon fell in love and were married on February 2, 1963, at The Falls Episcopal Church in Falls Church, Virginia.
Following their marriage, Nancy and John moved to Oregon where she worked as a bookkeeper in a doctor's office and later in nursing homes. With her exceptional sewing skills and creative talent, Nancy eventually turned her passion into a full-time career, making shirts and dresses for square dances.
Nancy and John shared a love of square dancing and round dancing for many years. They were active members of the Checkerboard Squares dance club and held numerous leadership positions within the square dance community at both the local and state levels. They also enjoyed camping and traveling together in their camper, exploring many different places along the way.
Nancy's creativity extended far beyond sewing square dance attire. She enjoyed smocking and adding decorative embroidery to clothing, using her talents to create special outfits for hospitals to provide to families who had experienced the loss of a stillborn baby. Through these thoughtful gifts, she shared her skills and compassion with families during some of their most difficult moments.
Her artistic talents also included oil, tole, and acrylic painting, beading, ornament making, stamping, and card making. Nancy had a special fondness for flowers, plants, and butterflies, reflecting her appreciation for the beauty found in the world around her.
Nancy’s family includes her husband John; daughters: Tammie Sartwell of Boring, Oregon, and Teresa (Theo) Boman of Webster City, Iowa; grandchildren: John Varney, Donovan Sartwell, Elizabeth (Daniel) Baxter, Barbara (Matt) Etcher, Peter (Ashley) Boman, Michelle Boman, and Samuel (Shannon) Boman; 16 great grandchildren: Delilah and Dakota Sartwell, Bukkiah, Hananiah, Hezekiah, Jael, and Jemimah Baxter, Kinnick, Kloe and Karley Etcher; Melody, Connor and Archer Boman, Solomon, Sophie and Simon Boman; brother Al Hovey-King; brother and sister in law’s: Jerry and Aloma Morris, and Dick and Judy Sisco. She was preceded in death by her grandsons Jeffrey Varney and Dylan Sartwell.
