Roger L. Tapper, 70, of Webster City, died Friday, August 30, 2013 in Ames. Family and friends will be celebrating his life on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Community Church of Kamrar, with Pastor Peter Mueller officiating. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 PM at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Boman Funeral Home of Webster City is caring for the family.
He was born on May 14, 1943 to Harm & Catharine (Johnson) Tapper in Webster City. Roger graduated from Northeast Hamilton High School and attended Iowa Central Community College. He served in the Iowa National Guard for two years and then in the Reserves. He married Linda Henderson on September 11, 1965. Roger grew corn and soybeans all of his life and operated a farrow to finish swine enterprise. He was a skilled entrepreneur with a creative mind and ability to build or fix anything.
Roger loved racing. He was inducted into the Hamilton County Speedway Race Association Hall of Fame in 2003 after 36 years of racing stock cars, sportsman and late models around the Midwest. He continued racing with his son thereafter. He enjoyed serving on the Kamrar Volunteer Fire Department in his earlier years and he was a member of the Community Church of Kamrar.
His family includes: his wife, Linda, of 47 years; three children Dawn (Patrick Lynch) Carlson of Dallas Center, Wendi (Brad) Dinsdale of Webster City & Kelly (Karen) Tapper of Boone; six grandchildren Cody & Paige Carlson, Josi, Gavin & McKenna Dinsdale & Lexie Tapper; two sisters Connie Carter of Blairsburg and Donna (Gail) Utter of Ankeny & several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Roger was a quiet and humble man who loved the Lord. Memorial money will be used to help the organizations that he held dear.
