Suzanne Johnston

Suzanne (Sue) B. Johnston passed away at Van Diest Medical Center July 19, 2026. Memorial services will be Tuesday, July 28 at 2:00 pm at Asbury United Methodist Church with visitation an hour prior to services. Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) is in charge of arrangements.

Sue was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, May 20, 1947, to Kenneth and Luella (DeFoe) Patterson. Sue graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1965. Sue married Bruce Johnston on August 24, 1968, and the couple made their home in Vermillion, SD. They later made their home in Anthon, IA before settling in Webster City, IA in 1974. Sue worked at law offices before working for the Hamilton County Auditor’s Office. Sue retired in 2011.

Sue was known for her strong work ethic and unwavering devotion to her family. She also enjoyed playing tennis and Wallyball. Sue was involved in many card clubs, including Bridge and 500. When her family got together, they often played “bidding”.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of nearly 58 years, Bruce of Webster City, IA, son Matthew and daughter-in-law Claudia Johnston of Rosemount, MN, daughter Sara Johnston of West Des Moines, IA, and grandchildren Jae Johnston of Webster City, IA, Wyatt Johnston of Minneapolis, MN, Macy (Brady) Etherington of Fort Dodge, IA, and Jacob Worthen of Urbandale, IA. Sue is also survived by siblings Larry Patterson, Liz (Duane) Johnson, Marvin (Laurann) Patterson, Sharon Lutz, and Peggy (Russell) Rice. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Mark (Linda) Johnston and Scott Johnston and sister-in-law Carol Patterson. Sue also has many nieces and nephews. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, mother- and father-in-law Doris and Raymond (Hap) Johnston, brother Paul Patterson, sister-in-law Mara Patterson, and brother-in-law Eric Lutz.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
