Velma Jeanne Mabe, 88, of Sugar Land, Texas, died on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Brookdale Senior Living in Sugar Land, Texas.  A private family service will be held at a later date.  Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) is caring for the family's needs.

 

Jeanne was born on December 26, 1935, in Dallas County, Iowa to Leslie and Hazel (Whitney) Hodges. She married Robert “Bob” Lee Mabe in Harrison County, MO on October 7, 1967.  Jeanne worked for AT&T for 44 years, after her retirement she then worked for Enterprise for 20 years.

 

Jeanne enjoyed traveling with her husband Bob, they went to many places, and were on the West Coast when Mt St. Helens erupted and in San Francisco, during an earthquake.  The couple also raced canoes and were members of the Houston Canoe Club.  Jeanne was number 12 of 13 siblings; she had many nieces and nephews and always remembered their birthdays.    She was a generous person and supported many different charities.  She was active in her community and a member of her neighborhood civic club, where she made many friends who she helped take care of over the years.  She had some special friends Lisa Smith and Elsa Mendez, who took excellent care of her during her last years.

 

Jeanne’s family includes her stepchildren Rich (Julie) Mabe; Cynthia Mabe; eight step grandchildren; nieces and nephews:  Pamela Heward, Joseph Hodges, Dixie Crouch, Laurie Culp, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; twelve siblings; and stepsons Tom and Ronald Mabe.
